Creamy Tomato Basil Soup

This is from Our best bites. I Love this soup.
1-2 TBSP EVOO
5-6 cloves minced garlic, chopped
1 small onion, chopped
2 (15 oz) cans fire-roasted diced tomatoes
4 cups (2 cans) chicken or veg broth
3/4 c veg juice, like V8
3 TBSP chopped fresh basil (I have used dried with success)
1/4 C +2 TBSP heavy cream 
cooked pasta (I like orzo), optional

Heat oil in a large stockpot over medium heat. Add garlic and onions and saute for about 5 minutes or until onion is translucent. Add undrained tomatoes, broth, and veg juice. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer about 10 minutes. Add the basil and remove from heat. Using a blender, blend the mixture until the desired consistency is reached. Do it in batches if necessary. Add cream and cooked pasta (if using) and stir to combine. Season with salt and pepper.
