Butter Biscuits




This recipe is from Debbie Stowell. It can be made in a dutch oven also- though i haven't ever and probably will never try it :) My favorite for biscuits and gravy!
2 c flour
4 tsp baking powder
3 T sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cream of tartar
1/2 C butter
3/4 C milk

Sift the dry ingredients into a bowl. Using a pastry blender, cut in the butter to the size of peas- do not overwork dough or cut in too fine. Mix in the milk. DO NOT KNEAD. Now there are 2 different methods for the next step. I do the first: drop dough by spoonful on ungreased pan close together OR gather the dough into a ball and roll or pat to a 1/2 in thickness and cut with a biscuit cutter. Bake at 450 for 10 minutes or until slightly brown.
